Ive been trying most of the day to find out a way i can render out an object - and the associated shadows generated.

- obviously having a "shadow catcher" surface is needed - I've experimented in having the "matte" setting enabled (and ofc alpha channel enabled in the render + alpha shadows) - however apart from almost doing the trick - i still end up with the shadow affected areas at an opacity of 100 - instead of having some sort of transparancy.

- If i were to use this for just still images it wouldent be that much of a problem - however - for video compositing its a headache.

Hi Paviaden,

Changing the opacity of the matte material should change the opacity of the shadows.

Thanks
Chris.

Fooze : true - however that will be a general opacity of it all - including the colors affected in the area eg:

if i toned down the opacity to get rid of the blue (in this case comming from the hdri image / daylight enviroment map in supplied image to show you) - to the extend where it doesent interfere with the composited background - no shadows will be available.

Hi Paviaden,

Sorry I think I have misunderstood what you are trying to do.
Do you want the shadows to stay but the object casting the shadows to not be visible?

Thanks
Chris.
