Currently all maps that I try to update while scene in rendering does not work unless I link the channel some other node like a float or something else then link back to image again. I wonder whether we will get feature like live update. Like what active shade is in Max. I know Max is unstable like crap, but hopefully Octane won't be like that. It would greatly speed up the texturing process if we can just keep editing the texture in photoshop or what not, press save and Octane automatically update the image node.

I did, and it opens up a window to pick texture. While I click on the same texture file, nothing changes in the render view. I have to change the node type or change it to another texture file and then link back before it will show the changes. Is it supposed to be this way or is my Octane broken?

if the filename is the same, octane will reuse the texture that's already in the texture cache.
i recommend for now to save with different filenames, then relinking.

i'll take a not of this to fix it in upcoming versions.

Ah, good to know my Octane is not broken, and I'm not crazy. hahaha
It would be nice to have that auto texture update though. I have dual screen set up, I'm sure most people do now days. I am hoping to have have photoshop or whatever texture program on one side and have Octane on the other one. Fix the texture in PS, press save and see Octane update automatically on the other side.
