@gabrielefx
"I always use large curved billboards outside the windows in animations. These panels can intercept the sun and cast shadows."

Do you use one sized curve for all your billboards? I reason I ask is I'm trying to find the right size curve billboard for the Nikon 10.5 mm lens, In AfterEffects/TrapcodeHorizon I input H-Coverage,V-Coverage and it generates the right size curve background without issue.

@octane developers

It would be great if this new pano feature has a similar inputs to Trapcode Horizon, it's just so easy to work with, If one uses autopano one can just cut/paste the H and V coverage numbers

They are:
- Image Map layer
- H Coverage
- V Coverage
- X Rot
- Y Rot
- Z Rot
- Straighten
- Scatter

Thanks in advance.

You can solve this problem by setting the parameter "nearClipDepth" in the thinlens camera node. It clips geometry close to the camera.
@Abstrax
That does not solve the problem in 90% of the cases where I need this feature ( especially in animations where near clipping creates all sorts of other problems) - take the bedroom image I posted above -the near clipping plane will clip the carpet and bed before it completely 'hides' the wall in front of the camera - and I really don't think we should have to create other angles to compromise - in the case of the bedroom the client wants the view out the window to see the view - which you probably recognize.

It worries me slightly that the Octane team don't have this on 'the list' as a top needed feature - I honestly thought it would make it to version 1.0, I dare anyone to name a renderer that doesn't have this feature - including other non-biased renderers.

i use compositing tags in vray very often too...
the integration of such is not easy in octane standalone i guess... (no object list etc)
but i think the more features are added its gui is getting too complicated and unclear anyway...
my hopes are for the c4d plugin

Hoping for the C4D plug may not bring the results you desire.. per Juanjo (LW plug guy): plugins are
completely dependent on standalone functionality. He can't make objects invisible to camera until
Octane does... he (nor any other plug dev) can't make anything happen, that can't happen in Octane
standalone. That is my understanding of the situation... Juanjo?.. can you chime in?

That is correct.

Please make this stuff happen bro. You guys are so very close. You get some of these
top items scratched off the list, and this thing is going to be a masterpiece!

Here are the ones off the top of my head which I am really, really looking forward to:

[1] Undo
[2] Background Image
[3] Primary Visibility (Unseen by Camera)
[4] Sun Size (Soft Daylight Shadows)
[5] Grouping Node
[6] Keyboard Shorcuts

Also, I might as well put this here -- today I had an idea for yet another Octane feature...
PSD Node. You connect only Render Targets to it. One after another, Octane renders each
Render Target (some of which could be special buffer pass stuff.. or whatever) until it hits
the max samples of that node.. when it has all nodes rendered, it saves a PSD with them
in layers in one PSD file.. could be very useful. And it could kinda double as a batch-renderer
of sorts... not completely sure of all the uses.. one that does come to mind is when you
want to make HDRI's with the new 180° lens.. which is hopefully coming in next candidate.

FrankPooleFloating, we try our best, but remember we are in New Zealand and have a slightly different time zone than the rest of the world ;)

Sorry for all the bitching and carrying on. I do appreciate everything you are doing.

We are just so close. So close.

If I wasn't getting ready to end a 14hr day, I could probably come up with a better
analogy: Using Octane is sorta like driving a Mercedes CLS550 with 24-sided wheels...
Drop-dead gorgeous. Gets you there. Bumpy.

That was a funny comparison. Anyway, I think we will get there in a not too distant future.

Regarding 1.11: It looks as if everything is sorted out for the release on Monday/Tuesday. Building for pre-Fermi GPUs is a pain though and it may be that this is the first release without support for them :( I can't say yet for sure.

Cheers,
Marcus
