hi, you could try with this software to force the mbp to use only the integrated gpu and leave the gtx only for octane, in theory you could gain some vram and a better navigation in the scene:

beppe, thanks for the link to the gpu switching app. Nice!

I can't really see that much of a difference so far, but I'm only playing with the demo scenes. Once I'm up to speed with Octane UI I'll start loading up my own scenes and see how that goes. So far I'm loving Octane... might be time to plonk down cash on a license soon. And I home C4d integration on Mac happens this year!

It´s my first post here, so hello to all first!!!

I would like to test octane a little but at the moment I dont´have the hardware which would match the specifications needed (CUDA)...
Now I plan to upgrade my macbook pro to one with 1 GB GT 650M graphic card....
I know that it´s only a mobile card and so I don´t know if it would give me enough power to start with octane?...for example to meke some tests with architectural interiors...
It´s absolutely impossible to find any benchmark results for the GT 650M...So perhaps you could specify which performance I could expect compared to any known cards (for example GTX 570 or GTX 580)...
I dont´t need exact results but only an estimation: Would it bring 10% of the performance of a GTX 570 or 30% or 50%?
I still can work well on my current MBP, so if there is no sense to use a GT 650M for octane I would perhaps consider not to upgrade...

Thank you very much in advance,
Arturo

Hi, a 650m is not suitable for Octane on every OS, the mobile cards are much slower than the regular cards.
A GTX 670/80m should work.
For 1.799,00 € buy a PC with Nvidia Titan and work remote from your MBP.

Cheers, mib.
