Hello,
I just got a new MacBook Pro & wanted to try the OSX version of Octane, Installed 4.0 toolkit & driver like the forum said. But no luck; it says that my driver are outdated Inside Octane.
When I update them, Octane still works but no GPU detected; tried on Windows 7 to be sure, and it worked fine.
I suppose the GPU is not supported yet by CUDA or Octane?
GeForce GT 650m is the GPU. I'm just curious about the performance on OSX, I still can work on Octane on Windows 7 & it works very fine.
Thank you!
Octane on MBP Retina

I assume this might be because gtx650m is Kepler based card and demo version might not be prepared for it (don't know for sure as i haven't used demo at all) but there's a Kepler test build in the forum for licenced users that should run on Your mbp.

Ah! I guess you are right, I saw that it was only available for people with licensed Octane.glimpse wrote:I assume this might be because gtx650m is Kepler based card and demo version might not be prepared for it (don't know for sure as i haven't used demo at all) but there's a Kepler test build in the forum for licenced users that should run on Your mbp.
Thank you, I was about to edit my message because it "fails" when I use Octane on Windows too, but CUDA works & the GPU is detected.
Thanks for the very quick answer, really appreciate it

I also have a new Macbook Pro Retina. Purchased and received a Octane Render license last night.
So far haven't found any downloads but the demo version.
Do they work during weekends or will I have to wait until monday to be able to download the test build?

I now have Octane Render running on my Macbook Pro Retina. I must add, it didn't work on OS X.
What I did was:
1) Download a legit Windows 7 ISO file. I used Enterprise 64-bit.
2) Followed this guide together with the Booth Camp Assistant already installed on OS X 10.8.
2.1) I made a partition and gave Windows 60 GB.
3) When Windows is installed, open the "WindowsSupport" folder on the USB disk or key you used for the install. Run setup.exe
This will fix all drivers so you can connect to Internet, apple mouse etc, all screen resolutions etc 2880x...
4) Download the Kepler test build in the paying customer area. 64-bit.
5) Extract. Run. Register. Tada!*
Worth noticing, you might get some error about the network connection. I restarted and somehow it worked.
Now, with the Macbook Pro Retina. You only have one NVIDIA card. That is 16 cores. Compared to the intro video which had 446 cores. So, everything is a bit slower than expected from all the video tutorials. STILL! The results are much faster than using GI and AO in Cinema 4D or Houdini. And if your like me who wants to tweak, change colours, tweak, change colours.
It just might be worth the trouble.
Well... Hopefully this will help make up your mind.

Fake Pilot, i have just purchased a new MBP with the 650M just to try Octane. May I know how your experience with it has been? Pros and Cons?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, to be honest I have not been using it very much. It does work. Not as fast as multiple Nvidia cards some use in tutorials.
There is a plugin for C4D on Mac. No for Maya yet, what I know?
Big scenes can be problematic, if you don't change the preview settings.
Opening up the bathroom mirror provided scene, my MBPR becomes so sluggish it almost crashes. Cannot stop the render.

Thanks for the reply Fake Pilot.
That doesn't sound like very good news for OSX users on the MBP. So would you say that its not very productive if attempting to work on an actual project with the MBP? Is that because the 650M has only 1GB memory? How is the parsing/voxelising times on the MBP?
Also, you mentioned a Mac C4d plugin? Is that what you're using?
