PMC is more accurate than Pathtracing and can produce better results for complex scenes that contain a lot of lighting and caustics. Pathtracing is the faster kernel but lacks the intelligent thinking of PMC in finding better lightpaths in complicated scenes and doing great detailed caustics and will take much longer, and even then would not able to match the superior quality delivered from PMC. The Pathtracing kernel does produce more fireflies but their are a couple of tools that can help in this case such as the caustic blur and hotpixel removal.
