Converter 3dsmax to another format for non max-users?

Hi, you maxpeople,
As a non 3dsmax user I have seen some great 3dsmax models on the internet ..
And now I am trying to figure out how to convert or import a 3dsmax file..
The only converter I have found yet is Polytrans, but the price (395euro) is not attractive.
I know you don't need a converter from 3ds to somthing else, but maybe you know a way?

Install 3ds max 30-day demo and use it to export to whatever you need. Make that month count! (rolling back with system restore could give you extra days)
