Very nice feature, it would also be nice to have the same for the reflection of objects as well.
So that Iron Men can also be reflected on the ground.
Is that possible?
New feature : Shadow Catcher

I'm trying to setup my scene to render object + shadow with transparent background,
But it doesn't show any shadow.

Make what you want transparent a diffuse mat, and on the bottom of the material properties, check the "Matte" option.
in your kernel settings, turn on alpha channel and make sure "keep environment" is off.

I attached an Octane file with it set up (I'm not sure about the best way to go about it. It has a 50% grey matte material with 50% opacity, otherwise the shadows are too dark).krzychuc4d wrote:thanks for advice

If this works for you, then its something you were doing wrong. Check all the settings.

I'm confused...a few weeks back i was reading about how the rc3 was the same as v1... am i wrong?? because now in the last posts you guys are making me think that the Shadow Catcher feature is already present for us to play with...but when i go and try to find the "matte" option on my diffuse material..ITS NOT THERE
Using the RC3 of v1 from 20Nov2012.. talking about the max plugin btw..

The shadow catcher is currently only present for the standalone version which you'll find on latest release on the release candidate forum. Max plugin will come soon.
Very, very useful. Finally
Yes, it would be very useful to have the matte showing reflections, too.
Any ideas???
