And I'm sure we will see lots of cheap misuse of flash, where good lighting should be set up instead.Elvissuperstar007 wrote:I'm sure. that with the advent of the flash we see interesting renders people

it all depends on the skill of
I am an experienced renderer, for me it will be useful

I'm sorry, but I consider this quite silly.
What should be requested would be that the position and rotation of an object like "a camera" could be used as output to control the placement of another geometry, that would give you all kinds of options and all kinds of "flashes" placed anywhere in any form, lenses, shades, frames with monkeys, rifles, etc.
Flash is not an effect, just another light emiter, and it is very, very ugly and unpleasant.
I never heard of photographing jewlery with a flash on the camera, not really usefull... you should do it like this:

Regards
Filipe

I agree, photographers hate using a flash.
I've used a setup like the above on several occasions when I was in art school. My teachers would shoot me if they saw me using a flash.

Flash is just an emitter positioned in the most lousy place possible, so that it produces:
* flat lighting
* ugly contrast / sharp shadows
* unwanted / ugly reflections
Why would anyone want to use this is beyond me... (except for bad "photorealism")
But if the devs will be doing this, they might as well implement it in the way manalokos described: the possibility to stick an arbitrary geometry on (beside / ontop / behind...) the camera.
