HDRI map at 1000 s/px
Importance sampling of HDRI environments can significantly reduce noise caused by very bright spots in the environment map by directing more rays towards these spots (giving these spots more 'importance' over other areas of the env map)

Hi, this is very interesting.
icelaglace, could you show a render with the same amount of time not samples?

Octane grows more and more, cheers, mib. :D
P.S. Is this Structured Importance Sampling of Environment Maps/ Berkley?
I know you can´t go in detail here, only a question.

Sure, there you go.
I use only one GPU for this image by the way.

Nice! I usually need to go in and blur the shit out of my HDRI images to reduce the noise, but this looks much better :)

I apologize for the question (maybe for someone is obvyous) iceglace,

with "evironment importance sampling" you mean simply the tweaking with the specific parameter (direct light importance) in the PMC Kernel or you mean something else specific to the environment map?

Thanks, Paolo
