Very sensible point of view .
I agree with every word, my point is We already have OBJ import in the standalone right ? FBX would be Great, that's all.

Yeah, I agree. I hate Octane plugin in max. I prefer standalone. But how to work effectively now with it?

With Max or Maya you can do things impossible to do with the standalone

one example? pro animation.

Ok, you are right. Maybe I was not too clear with this. I mean that standalone version has some benefits over plugin in host apps.
- interface
- more flexible material creation, fine preview
- fast viewport

For me, Octane plugin gave me only a pro animation... and no export anymore.

It is just because eg. Max interface sucks.
And from my experience standalone works faster. It's crazy maybe different memory management.

forgot to mention about stability! integration often crashes
the difference in speed is slower at 1.5 hours
I'll be happy the new exporter, exporter ma2otane our outdated and does not work more normally (
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2359 old buggy script!

the plugin has the same interface as 3dsmax.
If you don't like 3dsmax so much, why do you use it?

 yeah, good question. Believe me, when you work ten years in soft, it is a little bit difficult to switch. In general I like max because of plugins/scripts. Material creation is not bad but
I think it was not designed for gpu computing. It was many years ago... But it is off topic. Always are some pros and cons.

Well. If you work in 3dsmax and buy plugins for 3dsmax it assumes you prefer to work with 3dsmax.
I could try to reproduce octane standalone interface inside 3dsmax, but in this case I would have much more complaints from who uses to work with 3dsmax interface.
