A few weeks ago, the forums have become very difficult to read. All of the thread titles became bright red.

If I hit the "Mark forums read" link at the bottom of the main page (http://render.otoy.com/forum/), then it will turn those thread titles to black, but all of the sub-forums still have red titles.

How can I mark all of the threads to "read" so that they all become black? This way, when a new thread shows up it will be much easier to find.

Hi GeoPappas,

Yes, we made some changes to the colors a little while ago, however I didn't touch anything other than what colors were used - so what you are seeing here has been around for some time.
Unfortunately, the topic colors are driven by whether you have visited (clicked on) the link to the topic or not.
This is not particularly useful as if you use a different browser or clear your browsers cache the colors will re-set for these.

I might take a look at some stage and see what i can do here. It would be great to have these titles driven by the same mechanism as the icons, which reliably tell you what you have read or not.

Sorry, i don't know an easy way off the top of my head to make your browser think you have visited all the topics.

Cheers
Chris.

I have been reading the forums for a few years on a regular basis and this issue just started in the past week or so.

I don't believe that is true. If I read a thread in one browser and then go to a totally different computer and view the forums, it will show the thread as being read. So even from different computers, it tracks whether I have read a thread or not.

So there must be something within the forum software that tracks whether a person has read the thread or not.

Hi GeoPappas,

Clearly we are experiencing different things! (which is puzzling)
I haven't actually checked the forum code yet but from my experience with different browsers and from the fact that the CSS style sheets colors are based of the :visited (or not) selector, the previous comment is the conclusion i came to.
I am talking about the topic titles only (not the Forum titles, or the read/unread icon indicators).

Well I get similar problems with title coloring. For example the general discussion forum shows all read, but when I enter it, I still have these old dinosaur threads colored not read.

The tiny icon properly shows as read, but it's really hard to orient yourself by that little dot. I'm using Firefox.

Hi Guys,

I have made an update to try to solve these problems.
After taking the time to do a good look, i discovered the root of my problems was that the search page was acting differently to the view topics page (the search page also includes the "view active topics","view new posts" etc).
This is why we were experiencing different things between the topics listing and view active topic.

Hopefully the changes now made will bring some better consistency (inc across browsers).
Unread posts = orange link
No Unread posts = grey link

Cheers
Chris.

That seems to have fixed the issue.

FYI: I had to issue a hard refresh in order for this to take effect, which I believe is Shift-F5 (or maybe it is Ctrl-F5).
