Hi!

I would want to know if I can import an .obj file which have the materials applied yet.
Specifically I would want to "work" qith another software in which I have lot of textured objects, so I would set the model and the textures there, with furniture, etc, and I will go to Octone for lights and rendering, however, I have tried to export an obj file from my another program but when load it into Octano demo it only has one material.
If it's not possible, maybe is there a good files conversor?

Oh, another little thing; are you going to do Octane capable to use the CPU simultaneously with the GPU? Most of us have a good processor that wouldn't want to throw away.

PD: congratulations for this relly really great software!

Thank you!

What program are you using? It might have an integrated plugin available once you get the non demo version. That might solve your problem as you wont need any exporting at that point.

Other than that, if you use an exporter plugin from your software (I think some of these are available for the demo), it should export your materials, but you wont be able to control it as much as you can in Octane. (I highly recommend setting up your materials after you export because you will have much better control and get better results.

My workflow is setting up my scene, applying different materials to everything I want to have different materials and export to Octane stand alone. At that point I start setting up my materials, then if I want to change anything, I save, go back to my modeling program (Blender) and make my changes, then re-export. It will then load up my changes into my previous Octane scene, with all my materials ect. Its quite seamless really.

Thank you kavorka!

I'm using Autocad and then open it in Artlantis to apply materials and put objects like furniture etc, so I think it hasn't a plugin for Octane... However it can export to .obj but in other programs it opens like one blank material.
I have 3Dmax too, which I almost don't use, but if you confirm me that, I could export from Artlantis to 3dmax and from there to Octane; the "problem" is that I have lot of forniture in Artlantis so I would keep using it, I think.
Well, I don't know the possibilities, so I hear all you say.

Thanks!

I also use AutoCad for furniture. I bring my AutoCad into Blender for some fine tuning and setting up my overall scene and then bring it to Octane.

3dsMax does have an integrated plugin, it is an additional cost to the stand alone version, but it would solve your problem and from that point once you bring your furniture into 3DsMax you don't need to leave Max.

It sounds good! but one question; how do you export from Blender to Octane? (Maybe I can find a similarity with my soft and try to do it like you do with Blender, or I could do it from 3Dmax and only buy the standalone version  )

Thanks again

There was an exporter made for Blender. There is one for most 3d programs, but not AutoCad as far as I know.

Ok!

Then, I'm thinking about reorganizing my method, I could make my 3D "base" in Autocad (Buildings, etc), export to 3Dsmax, which I have seen has a lot of free high quality objects (Maybe the modeler that has the higher amount) and, here is my current doubt, export to Octane or work with Octane plugin inside (What is a better choice? If I export, I will need to re-set the materials, but if I use the plugin, I won't?)

Getting the integrated plugin is by far the better choice.

Hi Pacificador,

Current beta licenses will be valid for the 1.00 release, and any minor release after that ie: 1.1, 1.2 etc.

Cheers
Chris.
