Refractive Software®/Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2011, 2012 and 2013 / 32-bit & 64-bit on MS Windows operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®. Materials from the Live DB are currently not available.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 179€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 99€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses,
just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

This is the "quick-fix" version.

BUG FIXES SINCE LAST RELEASE:
  • Fixed the bug, crashed the render of frame where the instancer has 0 particles.
  • Info-channel kernel lost attributes are at their place now.
  • Fixed the bug crashed the render when non-Octane materials were present.
  • Fixed the bug when multiple-shape particles did not render.
  • A few little bugs fixed...
KNOWN ISSUES IN THIS VERSION:
  • The bug when shaders of common mesh are broken when particles count is more than 8191 is still there, it seems like it is some engine bug... I've posted the question about it to engine developers...

Thanks JimStar!

I've tested all the fixes above and everything seems good apart from the max_z_depth slider, this seems to have no effect on the render (doesn't even force the render to refresh when moved in an IPR session) and in fact the z depth pass now renders completely white regardless of the scene size or camera position.

Hoping the engine Dev guys can fix the shader bug quickly as it's a show stopper.

JimStar, I have just had shaders get bad assignments on my trees too, which means this bug isn't restricted to the common mesh, or it is a seperate bug.

I'm not sure if it's a known issue so I apologize in advance but the plugin doesn't seem to recognize when I instance a hierarchy.
So for example if the tree leaves are a child of the tree trunk and I make both the shape nodes movable proxies then I select the trunk and make instances of the tree,
In the viewport and outliner I see the the whole tree has been instanced but not in the render.
Only the tree trunk renders out and not it's children.

Thanks for info, I will check it. It would be nice if you may give some scene for catching it... it may speed up this fix...
