Hello octane developers, congratulations for your work with such a great technology and for provide us with an amazing render engine, but I have some questions, noted that I want to buy it but that beta stuff and the lack of possibilities of working with my projects on octane, at least so far is making my decision a little hard.

1 - About the beta issue, I really don't understand it, Octane is buggy somehow or what? Actually why Octane is beta?

2 - When the official Octane is released, the pricing will be like what? 99 bucks is a very small price, but it suits me well since I already works with other render engines, because if the final release costs much more than this release I will not be interested on change my render engine for Octane or I could simply invest money on hardware and use cycles for example that is slower but promises great results.

3 - Where can I find a way to export 3ds files and blender files to obj in a way that It works properly since all the UVS get weird when I open a new texture, other than that the materials don't seem to correspond to the materials on 3ds, particularly I rather know more about the 3ds way to export to the standalone than from blender since usually my clients use 3ds max and I have to work with it but I rather work on blender.

4 - Can I run animations on Octane(standalone), camera animations, object animations and Bones animations.

Anyway, thanks in advance, I m very interested on your software, congratulations for your great work!

Hi Leonnn1,

Thanks for your interest.

1) We are gearing up for release now so the current beta test release are almost feature complete and bug free.
2) Sorry I can't give you a concrete release price.
3) You can find a blender exporter script here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 2&start=20 this is developed by a community member and will help to export scenes from blender to 3ds max. For 3ds max try the demo of the integrated plugin here: http://render.otoy.com/downloads.html
With that you will not need to export from 3ds max to standalone. This has an integrated octane render viewport inside 3ds max.
4) With the standalone by itself - no, there is no camera/object/bone animation support (only a basic sunlight and turntable animation). Animation needs to be done on the 3d modeller side and an exporter used to render frame by frame with the standalone. The integrated 3ds max plugin can render animations inside 3ds max which is faster than exporting each frame to be rendered in the standalone.

Hope that helps.

Thanks
Chris.

I see, thanks for the answers, well, I really not intrested at all on other program them the standalone I use multiple programs, somethimes even sketchup, I really like the way octane renders, and I guess I will buy it once the stable version is released, well, if the price is fair, at least if I conclude that its fair, for static scenes its a great program, I achieved very realistic scenes with a small ammount of time time spent, I want to see how it will work with a graphic card with the kepler infra structure.

It's a very Decente work, congratulations.

I was searching around the other softwares other than octane that could do the same, and I found another one that could match with it and it was Arion, and I have to say that I got sort of disapointed, I didnt found a demo version and they have one of the worst things ever to offer on a render aplication that is that stupid learning edition that costs the price of octane, well, its really ridiculous.

Anyway I tested cycles too, for a while I can say that it s pretty mutch a good option but the rendertimes are very slow, so I have to say, octane is the best out there, and I really want to see it grow, I will buy it with taste, even the beta version looks great.

I have a question about the kepler stuff, I will buy a GTX serie 6xx and I want to know if the full version of octane have the possibility to use the kepler structure.

Hi leonnn1,

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
Yes, the latest beta test releases support kepler. Originally kepler was not performing well in octane but we have managed to reduce the gap in performance (kepler is not too far behind fermi) and kepler provides lower power usage, heat and also an increased texture count in the latest beta's.

Cheers
Chris.

When camera, light import will be done?

I make animation, and it`s important to know, before buy.

Buy both (stand and maya`s plugin) - i don`t want, because plugin doesn`t support may`s particles , etc
