I am trying to render a big scene with lots of instanced objects.I am using Max plugin of the Octane Render. Its around 525 million polygon. I have 4 gb GTX680 card and 32 gb of ddr3 ECC ram. The scene is using 1.4 gb of Vram without instanced objects(trees, flowers etc)
its ok for now. However when i unhide instanced objects octane debug texts says its using 1.8 gb of vram but the octane preview windows does not update anymore or it goes to empty sky?? i also installed nvidia gpu gadget and it says its using 1.8 gb of memory. After all i have assigned a diffuse material to whole scene to test if its about texture limit. But nothing changed same problem continues. Is there any option that im missing to allow whole ram usage?

I have tried to render it from command line. Render starts with empty sky :( same with octane viewport. Also i have copied the instanced objects(two times) so now it goes 750 millions polygon and its rendering ok.(Only instanced geometry). My Vram usage never goes more than 1.8 gb

I assume your scene just requires too much graphics memory. If you could explain in detail what you are doing then we might be able to understand what's going on. I.e. how many polygons does your scene have? How much total memory is displayed? How much free memory is displayed? Etc...

Cheers,
Marcus

I also have gtx 680 4gb and test it. No problem with reaching 4gb limit. See attachment.
