Hello,

since it'll probably going to take a few more days (maybe weeks) before GTX480 will be really available, I asked some professional hardware reviewers at Beyond3D with GTX480's to do a benchmark with Octane. These are the results:

3-4x faster  ! Woooot! Go Octane! :D

Nice seems really fast, but for more accurate results
They should use this bench

With the latest demo
Because the .07 is maybe faster, I don't know

I agree with you Sam. I first asked them to bench the latest demo version (v.1.02b2) but it doesn't run for some reason on GTX480. Two people tried it (cho and CarstenS on Beyond3D) without success. But demo version 0.7a did work with the 480. There's an extra advantage in using v.07a, because now we know for sure that the reviewer used pathtracing and not direct lighting ;)

i think our beta2 does'nt work on GTX480 because we did'nt include a kernel for it.
these cards use compute model 2.0 and we did'nt include specific support for it. (i thought it was'nt needed / backward compatible)

i'm going to add this to our beta2.
in the mean time, if anyone on this forum actually has a GTX400 card, please contact me via PM or something so we can test it.

we've ordered 2 GTX480 cards but won't have them until 10 days from now...

If yes, I would switch my mac pro for my Dell PW at once and buy a GTX 480 (perhaps two, Watercooled of course)
