hi all,
i tried out the standalone demo (unfortunately couldn't find a demo for the max plugins .. hence the questions below)
but before i buy i wanted to ask a couple of questions:
this is still an active project, right ?
i just want to make sure i don't buy something that goes away at some point
does the 3ds max plugin support all the materials of max ?
specifically the arch & design materials ?
say i apply a "chrome" material to a wheel of a car in max and then render in octane will it be a correct "chrome" material ?
how much material tweaking is required when rendering a scene in octane through the max plugin ?
say i've got the scene looking good in mentalray or finalrender and then i want to render it in octane ... are there changes necessary ?
and reversely ... say i start with a new scene and get it to look good in octane render but then want to render in mentalray or finalrender will i have to make changes to materials ?
are all changes i make save as part of the .max file ?
or is there a separate file that gets saved for the octane settings, materials, ... ?
it'd be great to hear from the experience from existing customers:
once you start using octane is that pretty much what you always use ?
or do you use it for certain scenes but not others ? indoors vs outdoors for example ?
one thing i liked with the demo was how quickly the image looks "good enough" so that i can determine if i like the lighting of the scene ... much faster than in mr or fr ... it's promising to make the lighting phase much faster
thanks for the answers
frank
couple of questions before i buy

hi frank, octane users must be busy testing and having fun with the release candidates, so here's one from us. Yes it's very much an active project and OctaneRender is here to stay. Parts of the licensed customer forums has just been opened up today, making it easier for those who want to test the export script with the free demo of the OctaneRender Standalone Edition. In the past, valid reasons that were viable that time have kept these scripts in a private forum. Feel free to go through the links and find the free export script for your respective 3d modeller. Although be aware that the export scripts are different from the integrated plugins. The export scripts are free, whereas you would need a separate license for an integrated plugin. If you are using 3dsMax, and would like to test the integrated plugin for 3dsmax, we strongly suggest for you to wait as we are going to release a demo version of the integrated plugins very soon.

Hi everyone, this is just to keep you informed about parts of the private forum that have been opened up last 9 Oct. We've had to retract this to give way to some serious restructuring on the forums. The export scripts will be available to all registered users soon. Cheers all!
