Hey guys after my little interior test scene, this is my new project.
I chose to this villa because it's a villa in my home town.
It's called House S by architect(s) Grosfeld van der Velde.
Still have troulbe getting some materials right, like the oven material and I'm not happy with the chrome material.
kabinets should be more white.
I have to get used to the material system in Octane.
Maybe someone can help me with that.
Modelling is not 100% accurate yet either.
Don't mind the HDRI, I used it for now but might change it later.
Rendered with PMC btw.
C&C's are very welcome.
thanks for watching.

Hi remon
as starting point, your scene looks really good (lot of potential
).
Did you used only an HDRI or there are some other lights?.
Don't you think that the coloration of the kabinets is due to the HDR? (did you tried with only a plane emitter?
..anyway I found a lot of difficult too to set properly a white glossy material (the trouble is that a glossy white material returns a darker color if compared with a diffuse white material): some people uses a mix shader (glssy+diffuse), don't know the percentage of mixing...i have tried many times but never done a good white glossy shader, hope that someone could help both of us
wat's wrong with the oven material?, maybe you want it to look more greyish?; and for the chrome material?.
What tipe of camera response did you used?
Want to see soon some up!
Cheers, Paolo

..by far this is probably one of my favourite WIP thread here in this forum.
The image is very promising - Love the angle, light..mood =)
bit more detailing, playing with suble tones and this will be perfect image =)
impatiently looking forward for any updates from You!

Thnx guys, you keep me motivated to make something nice out of it.
In this scene I only used a HDRI for lighting.
I'll try to get that cabinet material right and if I'll get it right I'll give you the settings.
The oven material is oke but could be better, just have to tweak it (don't wanna go for 'oke' materials
).
Camera response type is Agfacolor Vista 800CD.

I love the lighting here - hdr only - great look - is it me, or it's like you have to test for 20 different hdris to get a look you like?
Is there a more analytical approach, or is it a bit of a hit or miss approach

I never used and hdri for illuminating a scene, but i think that if you are usual about that, after a while you should know the "response" from an Hdri to the illumination, hope not to have told a bullshit

I'm agree with you, it's a great illumination for only an HDRi. Remon, the room it's closed or the wall behind the camera is hide?

I didn't use any tricks here.
The house has got a floor ceiling and all the walls are there.
I just looked at some HDRI's I got and just chose one, which I think would look good for the scene.
The I rotated it, looking at the lighting and shadow, and stopped when it gave me a nice feel.

Oke little update.
I don't like the rug, so have to work on that.
And I have to get rid of the noise.

the room is getting alive
the camera settings are the same of the previous render?, the floor and the ceiling look lot brighter; for me the 1st render was more light balanced
What do you use as renderer?, the standalone or the plugin?, the new realease of max plugin now works good with the white glossy shader (..at last the white looks white
)
wait for up!

Thnx for the reply, the last render is indeed not what I'm going for.
Same setting but with some PP.
I don't like it either.
I'm using the stand alone version, I do all my modelling in Modo.
I just found out fresnel is available now, that changes everything.
I think the trick to get a white glossy material is to set the specular very low and the index very high.
That's what it is in the real world.
Now I have to remake all my materials
.
Updates comming soon, when I have a bit more to show.
