What do you mean by Layer AO ?
If I am not wrong, AO render is already available when rendering in "clay" mode.
I use it also to composite shadows, as clay render receives shadows from the Daylight system.
I remove color (blue sky color) in Photoshop and mix the layer with color render (Multiply mode and adjusting the level of mix).
If you mix in Addition mode the AO render with for example a cloud texture before applying shadows, you get AO dirt (randomized AO).

Yes, so it is already available in clay mode. No ?

it is not available to the 3dmax builtin plugin yet anyway.. and the clay mode is more of a workaround
also +1 for dirt
generally dirt works like AO only you can control it invert, assign a texture or noise to it so you get "dirt", so it would be great if octane adds AO node to any material like we have with fallof now, and a node for the entire scene to control AO or dirt
for instance the 3dmax plugin in this thread does the work nicely, only it is not really compatible with octane, an it would be nice to add more control and realism to the scene - this plugin adds more options to create dirt anyway
