Hey,

I'd like to request a wider roughness scale please.
At the moment it's impossible to fine tune the amount of glossiness. Everything that is greater than 0.5 looks about the same and 0.001 is too glossy and 0.003 is already too blurry.
It's very limiting for glossy materials. Either add one decimal place or rather increase the values so that say 0.1 is like 0.001 is at the moment. That would give us a wider range.
Makes sence? At the moment I can't make materials I'm after.

Thanks,
Suv

Yes, this is the same issue i'm having.
It's up to plugin developer to pick how many decimals or what range to use. He can pass whatever values to Octane internally. Let's say that if inside Max we have 1-100, then this value can be divided by 100 or 1000 or 10000 etc. when passed to Octane. Current implementation is bad and limiting.

Karba, could you please change it and give us more range for glossiness values?

Thanks,
Suv

If we will change this scale, it will ruin all users scenes.

Well, that's inevitable!
It is a beta software for crying out loud. It evolves. Users who need to render their old scenes can switch back to previous plugin version.
You're telling, that there will be no updates that fix old stuff?
Current behaviour of glossiness value is very limiting.

It doesn't have to be in 1-100 range. Could you maybe add just one more decimal place? At the moment the smallest number can be 0.001. Can you make it to be 0.0001?
That would give us 10 more glossiness steps and it would also keep the compatibility of previous scenes.
Any thoughts? Can it be done?

Sorry, for being funny. Of course, we can make the roughness behaviour more linear. We already have made the change (with the new specular reflection model). It was just good to have a user explicitely asking us to make a change that can break old scenes.

Cheers,
Marcus

It's just about geting one more decimal place to Max material UI.
It's a 10 minute coding work and I have to jump trough hoops to explain to you why it is needed.
I'm affraid of what's going to happen with Octane camera bug or unicode bug. How much I will have to annoy you to get those fixed?
