I use the standalone in C4D and has more speed and quality rendering! the C4D version is outstanding..not the same for this 3DSmax version.. I'm not happy of this.. the No there isn't a plugin for 3DSmax 2013 for export to standalone?
If you want to compare speed of different versions you have to use the same scene - the same geometry, the same materials, the same environment, the same lights. All other tests are useless. Don't confuse other users.

When pressing Cancel during rendering that uses instances, offten crashes Max.

Mouse right click on object, than octane properties, then set movable proxy.

After I installed the update, Max crashes when it loads the Octane3dsmax.dlr file.
I am running Max 2011 64 bit and I made sure that I had the correct files.
Note: The install.txt file lists six files to be installed but there are eight in the zip file. I installed the extra two (octane.exp and octane.lib) into the Max root folder.
Since Max was crashing on startup, I deleted all eight files and restored the original six from the 3.00d version to get Max working again (now back to Octane 3.00d).

I'll use this opportunity to mention a few issues that I am running into in the 3.00d version since they may not have been addressed in the latest version:

1) If I duplicate a material and then tweak it and apply it to a model, I get the standard Max warning asking if I want to replace the existing material (since the names are the same). If I say yes, it actually overwrites the new material slot with an older material. I have to rename the material first to avoid this.

2) I am working on converting a scene that I licensed to use Octane render instead of mental ray. I performed the material convert.
When I do a test render, the subject of the scene renders with lots of triangles on its surface. I created a cylinder to see if it is specific to the model and got the same kind of result. How do I avoid this triangle effect? I guessed that it may be some kind of scaling issue, so I tried increasing the cylinder size significantly but to no avail.
A minor thing I also noticed: if I applied a material to a model and then undo the step (so that there are no materials on it), it still thinks the material belongs on it.

Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

You don't need to use this two files, I placed it in archive by mistake.

This is standard 3dmax reaction no matter what render you use.

What is cylinder size(meters)?

Hi Karba,
Thank you for the quick response.
1) Even when I removed the two extra files, Max would still crash when loading the new plugin.

2) The material replacement is doing something different than what's normal: it actually changes the material in the slot to a different material and applies it to the selected object. The usual experience is for it to apply the selected material to all objects that have a material with the same name.

3) I think I sorted out the triangle problem. The camera was far away with a narrow field of view. When I set up a closer camera with a wide field of view things look much better. It would be handy if we had an option to create an Octane camera from a selected perspective (like the Create camera from view option).

To be honest, didn't check for 3dsmax 2011, will try next week.
Sad...

Karba, hello!:)

Please tell about render elements, did you planning to add them? point position, UV, reflections...etc.

Thanx.
