Very nice image. How did you model her hair? Is this by any chance a Steven Stahlberg model?boeing727223 wrote:Thanks, here is a WIP exported from DS4.5 at 1% and imported into 3.01 using the obj DAZ option....camera was easy to use so this might work.

Hey RayTracey, nope just a plain V4 with V4 poly hair using some transmaps. I added a touch of SSS to the hair and of course to the body as well....Octane took care of the rest.
Thanks for the compliment; I'm a huge fan of your blog and work

Same scene, same materials, same settings, but completely different times:
File no instances _ computation time 48m
File with instances (trees) _ computation time: 1h 20m
How is this possible? Should be much lower time to calculated render with instances!
it may have changed the kernel and can result in a greater cleaning in less time? Or are there any problems?

why?roeland wrote:With instances you will have lower memory consumption, but the rendering is less efficient.

I understand that this feature is ok for 100.000 instances but for one light and one teapot is not good.
one light (instanced by default) and one teapot less performances.
one plane mesh emitter and one teapot good performances.

i think that the comparison must to be done from the scene with all the objects not instanced to the same scene with all the possible objects instancedDaniel79 wrote:Same scene, same materials, same settings, but completely different times:

could you render the same complexity without instances?
ciao beppe
hello to all,
honestly it all seems confusing! ok roeland that is a saving of memory but it is incomprehensible lower performance ... instances allow you to create scenes with many objects but should be at least performing the same way!
if I have a scene with "only" 10 trees in terms of speed should not use instances, at least as long as I have memory in my VGA!

Hello,
should this version work with laptops?
I have Geforce GT650M and 2,58e Kepler works fine,
but 3.0 doesn't find the card and says "Initializing Cuda runtime failed, please make sure you have latest drivers" in the preferences.
I have updated latest drivers with Nvidia control panel and booted my system, no help.
What else can I try?

Hi Vernon, did you use the beta3.01 kepler build from first page?
They put it later on.
Cheers, mib.
