Hi,

Moving from 2.52 to 2,58e, faces on the X plane are gone, see image.
I created the obj from autocad and sketchup 8
Left image is rendered with 2.52 and default rayepsilon, making the faces on the X plane black.
On the middle image rayepsilon is adjusted, and faces on the X plane are rendered correct.
On the right the image is rendered with 2.58e, and the faces on the X plane are gone.

The obj is 23344 Kb and has 98812 Tris.
I also noticed that changing the scale in Sketchup changes the behaviour when exported to Octane.
When increased sometimes a few faces come back.
I tried exporters 1024-05 and 1025-02

Can you check the scale of your scene as outlined in our FAQ? See http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=21372, second question. The scale unit of Octane is meters, and if the scene scale is very large it may happen that some polygons dissapear.

Hi Roeland,

Thanks for your reply.
I checked what was happening with the scaling.
It turns out that when using Sketchup 5 to import a Autocad dwg the scaling (millimeters) is 1:1.
However when using Sketchup 8 pro in millimeters mode the scaling is in the order of 1:4760, 1mm becomes 4760 mm.
I will address Sketchup about that issue.

I scaled the sketchup model down to 1:1, changed the scalesettings in Octane to millimeters, and ran the plug-in.
All faces are now back, and rendered correctly.
But now there is a problem with positioning the (initial) view with the mousebuttons.
The slitest move of the mouse (pan or zoom) will position the view out of sight.
The only way to get it back is to use the reset camera button.
With some luck, when zooming in and out, the view sometimes 'snaps' into a position and everything (panning and zooming) is working fine again.
It does not matter if I set the scalesettings in Octane to millimeters or meters, there is no differance. This behaviour is randomly.
I also tried different mouse settings under preferences, but that did not change anything.
Perhaps you can help me with this issue.

Besides that, Octane is a great program and a joy to work with. The results are stunning.

With regards,

Jos

The camera target point may be set way behind the scene. Use the camera zoom picker to adjust the target point. You can right-click and choose Z-depth if you don't want to change the camera direction.
