Hi Peter,

Do this at your own risk but i would recommend updating your motherboards BIOS.
Just recently i have had 3 (identical) machines here that would consistently crash (whole machine hangs) when running 3GB 580's and setting a 8192x8192 render target. They also seemed to just hang randomly during octane. This problem drove me (and the guys using the boxes) up the wall!
Updating the firmware fixed the problem.

Now i know this issue and yours aren't directly related but your problem seems like something that could be one of these strange issues that could be a BIOS issue. I also see you have been having problems with png's getting cut short and octane quitting, also strange problems - this was with the 480 right?

Also does it still happen when you open Octane Standalone normally, load a project file that you know crashes on exit - select only 1 670 to render on then close?

Cheers
Chris.

The CPU is a i7 hexacore 980 with 24GB ram. Don't remeber the exakt model of the mobo but its a Gigabyte and has been running flawless the last two years.

I've ran 2x480GTX cards without any problem. For this project Im doing now the VRAM wasnt enough, so I tested replacing one of the 480 cards with a 670 running this build. Everything worked fine, so I decided to get two more 670 cards. As soon as I put more than one 670 card into my system the crashes began. I dont have any multi GPU enabled, so Im little puzzled :/ The crash happens exactly when Octane closes down.
How big is your power supply? Minimum power supply is 500 watts with 30 amps off the 12 volt rail for this card. In other words you can run your i7, your existing 480, one gtx 670, 24 gigs of ram, mobo, DVD drive and not much else. It could be that your PS is under powered and crashes if you put more than one 670 in your rig, and try to use them as rendering engines. Those 670's will suck down a lot of juice when your rendering. I have an EVGA GTX670 that im going to install along side my ATI V5800 using a 750 watt PS. I should be ok with that, but I will have another 670 card eventually as a secondary GPU renderer to the 670 I already have & the ps will more than likely have to be upgraded.

Sorry for a stupid question (and for my poor english as well), but I'm kinda confused with the licensing and pricing terms. I've just bought a Combo Package of Octane Render and 3ds max plugin, and I have a GTX680. So, if I go now with this test build, will the transition on a new Kepler release of Octane Render (that still will be in beta stage, I guess) cost me additional money?
The same question goes about transition from Octane beta to final release - I believe I've read somewhere that the final release will be available to beta license owners for a reduced price, but in my download instruction it is said that I have "Free access to electronic v1.0 final release, and subsequent v1.1, v1,2 etc... releases. (not including v2.0 and onwards)". Does it mean what it's said, will I get a free v1.x final release, or did I misunderstood something?

Yes, next time you have to pay is for updating to 2.0.

Cheers, mib.

Hi folks!

Good work, it works well on my MBP Retina (Bootcamped)
Question: What about an OS X version?

I see that you were successful bootcamping with MCP Retina.
Has anyone tried Parallels?

What Windows version are you running with your bootcamp? I am assuming windows 7... the reason I ask is there is talk about Windows 8 working well with Parallels 8 and Mountain Lion which the Retina displays run on.

Thanks

I'm not sure if the NVIDIA Mac CUDA driver does support Kepler cards, but if it does, Kepler GPUs will be supported by Octane, when we have Kepler support in the standard builds (which we are working on).

Connection issue:
Ive spent hours trying to get a Mac Retina display laptop Pro able to run Octane render in bootcamp mode. (I know a PC is cheaper etc... I travel and these days it is easier to bring one laptop.)

I have got all the correct drivers running and can see the internet and have the correct nvidia drivers for the Octane 258e kepler version so that it will run my 650M card.

Launch Octane Render 258e and it says:
Unable to determine network connection type- please contact Refractive Software Support.

I can post this so I know the internet connection is working fine.

I have come so far with this and I know it is a work around but if you can offer any help until a Kepler Mac version is avaialable it is my only way to load the best renderer in the owrld when I travel.

Thanks

Peter
