Which render kernel are you using? Also, pictures would help to describe your problem.

i'm using 2.58e...

i just made a closed room with glass windows (volumes 180x90x2cm)
and if i use a specular as glass i dont get shadows inside from the environment.
with glossy it seems to be possible with reduced opacity but thats not real glass then...
newbie .)

by render kernel, he means: Direct Lighting (default), Pathtracing or PMC.

Glass will only work with Patchtracing or PMC, so if you haven't changed from the default direct lighting kernel, it wont work.

create a glossy mat with alpha set at .2
reflection 1
glossy 0
fresnel ref 1.6 or 2

the sun will enter in your room.
don't use portals because they don't work good, put a transparent rectangular lights behind the windows and force the sampler. Tweak the color temperature: 4500 if facing the sun, 8000 if the window stay to the opposite side.

for architectural flat glass panels you don't need refractions.

that i figured out... but it doesent look like real glass.
and i use pathtracing/pmc

so fact is ...
real glass done with specular (not faked with opacity) does not let light trough?

not much going on w octane as i see... :-/

i am a bit disappointed tough...
i'm a bit fed of these render projects where u dont know
if you can rely on bc the developer situation seems so unclear.

hope it gets better somewhen.

Just wanted to point out that Octane Render is still in beta and hasent actually been released yet. As such, it may not be able to handle every project, but the ones it does handle, it does really well :)

i am and was aware of that and spent the money to support the project...

this is not an octance specific rant, i just notice this in other places too.
fact is there are a lot of renderers out there that are a big step away from production maturity
its just sad that first everything looks great when u go into deepness this and that doesnt work,
because its developed by small companies, w uncertain roadmaps, lack of developers etc.
there's no help about it too, we can just wait to see which projects raise and which not, i guess..

What exactly do you mean? Are you talking of the sun/glass issue or of something else? It's not that there hasn't been any development the last months... ?!?

Cheers,
Marcus
