The newly created OtoyNZ YouTube channel has several videos showcasing various "real time" animations made with the latest Octane build & the 3ds Max plugin. Sam Lapere's "Ray Tracey" blog has a recap posts of the latest developments, including the mention of a dedicated blog coming soon that will track the latest Octane tests & developments!
Things are beginning to move into high gear now & I'm looking forward to what the next few months will bring.
The latest Ray Tracey update: http://raytracey.blogspot.com/2012/07/r ... views.html
Octane for Max: real-time deformable geometry
Octane for Max: Real-time mocap test
Octane for Max: real-time animation previews

Looks cool. Looking forward to the blog. Don't forget to talk with us a little though Otoy. The unbiased render community is fairly small and many of your Octane customers know each other from various forums past and present. We are kind of used to chattering about the technology, development things and having some friendly dialogue with the coders.
On the other hand its good to see Otoy putting some effort into presenting the Octane business properly. Things had deteriorated a bit there for a while.
Keep up the good works Otoy team

pixelrush, we will start interacting a lot more, don't worry. One of the ideas for the blog is to let Octane users deliver content for blogposts in the form of tutorials or tips and tricks. We have noticed that some users come up with the most outrageous ideas to use Octane's new features, mostly stuff that we had never thought of before, for example the furry dragon by face, and we want to feature these little gems on the blog, preferrably with some making-of comments of the user who made it.
We also want to start a new competition in the near future with instancing as the central feature. The theme has not been decided yet, we're hoping for some original input from the user community.

Call the competition “NATURE” and strive for realism, rather than technical showcase (output should look as real as possible, not to hit some record - only geeks care about numbers, but not the clients =). Ask to write tuts for Your blog from those who qualify in top three =) pluss provide some insights, links to already done tuts feature covers or helpful post in Your forums along the way of cmpetition to help new commers get a grip with this outstanding engine.RayTracey wrote:

Last but not least, some social interaction and spreading news via chanels like Twitter would be nice for some =) simple stuff, but I know it takes time, though i would be very welcome. =)
Last time we had an original theme, but at the final evaluation it was ignored, to favor archviz renders. If you set a theme be sure to stick to it to the end. Nature is a good & broad one, that would work equally good for all types of artists.RayTracey wrote: We also want to start a new competition in the near future with instancing as the central feature. Good to read about the intent for more interaction with the userbase (though this should happen also on the development level, not only on the advertising one)

glimpse and matej, thanks for your ideas wrt the blog and for the theme. We're glad to see that there is interest in a new competition.
With a theme like nature, you can take several directions for example a herd of wildebeests grazing in a grassy savannah, pinguins on an iceberg, a furry animal, etc.
