Is it a bug or limitation of the denoiser?

I asked the same question last week.

This was the answer:

“Yes it is correct that they can't be denoised at the moment. The AI denosier uses contextual information of multiple passes to generate the denoised render passes, which is not available for the render layer passes. In the future we are going to look into improving the denoiser in that area.”
