Hi,
If you want to reuse materials always inside Houdini, the best solution is to build HDAs with the Octane VOP nodes that you need to build the material embedded inside. The important parameters needed to control de material can be exposed in the top HDA node, and these nodes can be used over multiple projects from a source library.
