Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
For clarification. I read the manual. It, like any manual it says what things do, not how best to utilize them. They are great reference but not great learning tools for me YMMV.
Ive read many manuals over my 30 year career as an editor. And they are no substitute for visual tutorials which are ...

Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
I dont have the time or interest in learning the stand alone. You are right, I will return to using Octane when its out of beta. Silly of me to think it could be used for clients projects.
I will try using it again when its ready for prime time.

Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
Giovanni Im glad Octane is working for you now.
But as a professional in the video industry your suggestion to...
"and lets all slow down and enjoy octane "
is not very helpful or realistic. I have to say that when learning new software to be used at work, time is of the essence. And the great ...

Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
Marcus, thanks for taking the time to post that file. I updated the stand alone and the C4D plug in as well.
When I first bumped into the issues, I had generated Octane stuff using the drop down menus on the Viewer. FYI that light was set for area light and shadow.
This time I just created C4D ...

Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
Sorry buddy, in my experience you are dead wrong. Ive had to learn lots of software over the years . Compared to C4D it is extremely obtuse. The managers for material creation are way more convoluted.
Hell, I can get s shadow in 10 seconds with C4D. Still not getting one as documented in the ...

Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
I find I have a positive experience with software when I have good tutorials to educate me on its use.
As a CMX/Avid/FCP/Premiere/After Effects editor for the past 30 years I think tutorials speed up and enhance the learning process for me.

Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
Sorry, Octane is much to obtuse for my needs. I am deleting it for the moment from my system and sticking with the standard C4D. Its not worth the extra learning curve it seems to demand.

Re: Trying to like Octane but not succeeding
Yup. I tried all the lighting types in the kernal AND all various light types as well as daylight. No shadows. It really shouldn't be this difficult to generate a shadow.
