I am able to render when I create anew scene and add objects and materials.

The new download worked and there was no activation dialogue box.

I also downloaded the Demo suite Demo scenes.

When I open the files there are no objects. I can see the nodes. below the main screen, which is entirely light grey, the following scene information is displayed.
