Displacements are by far Octanes most obvious weakness. The implementation of them is terrible, and lag behind even ancient renderers like Modos. Like already stated above, vertex displacements just aren't an option for 99% of people interested in speed and efficiency.

I'm curious if many people are working with volumes in Solaris Octane 2025? I have some very repeatable crashes when switching from Octane rendering back to OpenGL. I've rolled back to 2024 for now which doesn't exhibit this issue. It stops rendering and snaps straight back to OpenGL as you'd expect.

Is it possible to start wrapping up these version zips a different way? You have nested folders within folders within folders that far too easily hit Windows character limit if you're extracting in-place. Does every version archive need to contain itself? Can it not just contain the contents?

Appreciate the answer @ghost3d . We use Houdini FX, so having a full license just for rendering Octane is out of the question. Is houdini engine enough for octane to open the hip file and render?
I tried the default submitter but it gave a lot of errors on the network. I'll try again though, must ...

Is there any chance this works yet? Or on the roadmap to work? I too need to randomise the colour of a nested instance. The tree/petals example from chocbot shows it perfectly.
