I am considering a dual 980m SLI laptop like the Aorus x7 pro (http://www.aorus.com/x7pro.aspx) and would really appreciate your input.
Being that the 970m is a Maxwell based gpu, will it work in octane v2.2 as efficiently as kepler based gpu?
Also, if I disable SLI in the nvidia panel ...

Did u try unchecking "keep environment" before rendering in max? Works like a charm in photoshop. Havent tried AE, but it should work also.

I'm such a klutz (moron) at site navigation. I paid a full 199 euros for the plugin when the upgrade is only 39. Yikes!!

Whoa, my bad. I thought I had purchased both standalone and plugin for 2.0, but only have the plug-in and the 1.53 standalone. Yikes!!

I Just purchased octane 2.06a 3dsmax and Standalone.
When I open the Material Editor, Max crashes. Tried both Compact and Slate mat editor. Tried empty scene w/ no objects.

Compact Mat Editor crashes immediately.
On the Slate, it crashes when I create an octane material.
