This is a production release of the OctaneRender™ 2023.1.0.3 for Houdini™ plugin compiled with the Octane 2023.1 core. This 2023.1.0.3 release is available for the latest Houdini production builds on Windows x64, Linux, and macOS arm64.

Houdini production builds supported by this release: 19.0.720, 19.5.534, 19.5.569, 19.5.605 - 19.5.805, 20.0.506, 20.0.547.

If you are not sure if your Houdini version is compatible with the plugin - just run it and you will see an error message in case of incompatibility.

Linux Note
On Linux only compatibility Houdini 20 build is supported (gcc9.3).
It can only be installed by downloading it from the downloads page since it's not visible in the Launcher:

Release Notes
=============================================
RELEASE 2023.1.0.3
=============================================
* PLUGIN FEATURES AND FIXES:
- Added Houdini 20.0.547 plugin builds
- Mac builds are codesigned and notarized
- Added enable/disable tonemap, denoising options to the Octane_setGPU command
Note: The options behave the same as the Octane Plugin Options GPUs tab in the GUI. This means that one and only one GPU enables tonemap, and the GPU appointed as tonemap GPU will always be enabled.
Same options are also added in 2022.1.2.1 as requested, but the Octane Plugin Options GPUs tab in 2022 build's GUI allows users to enable/disable GPU and enable/disable GPU tonemap without any restrictions, so the options in 2022.1.2.1 follows the GUI's behaviour.
This means user's script using this option may have different results, so please take care to make necessary modifications while upgrading from 2022.1.2.1 release to 2023.1.0.3 release.
- Fixed a crash during exiting with IPR docked as a pane tab
- Default value of "image file path/prefix" has been changed to $HIP/render/$HIPNAME.$OS.$OCTANE_PASS.$OCTANE_LAYER.$F4
- Renamed "Projection OSL UV" to "Projection OSL Delayed UV" to match Octane Standalone
- Added "Invert layers" option to Octane_ROP->Output
- Enabled invert layers in IPR
- Fixed a bug related to deep image file path

Common Issues and Solutions
- If the plugin doesn't work at all, set HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2 in houdini.env and check for messages in the terminal.
- If you're missing libglut.so.3, install the freeglut package.
- If you are having any issues with the Deadline - please submit a support ticket to the AWS.

Happy rendering,

Hi I asked on the previous thread but I didnt get any replies.
I dont know if it is a limitation or if i am missing something, but I cannot use octane scatter on a vellum grain simulation. Any tips?

Hi thanulee, I don't think that is possible. What are you trying to achieve exactly, do you want to scatter items onto each grain or do you want to simulate the scatter itself?

Thanks.
I was trying to find all the ways to replace grains with custom geo during render time, as coming from c4d I can use scatter on simulation data, so i thought this is possible here.
I just used copy to points instead. Whats the best method to do that in terms of performance? Instance OBJ or Copy to points/packed prims?

Ok, yes I think Copy to Points would be a better way of handling it (imo). I would say use packed primitives where possible unless you need more control.

Perspective correction still doesn't do anything. (viewtopic.php?f=102&t=81471&hilit=persp ... on#p423228)

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience galleon27, thank you for letting me know.
Hopefully we can get a fix out for this relatively soon.

Hi there,

I have a bug to report.
This is a strange behaviour i found:
Image
I have one analytic light and eight standard quad lights. Sheen behaves strangely, as you can see, it's pretty much on/off only. As soon as I switch the analytic light to a standard quad as well, it behaves correctly. I read that you can only have 8 analytic lights max but I can still combine them with more than seven standard lights, right?
Here's the scene:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiO-yRNxbYloi1bbzOm ... l?e=PkR1x0
Just switch the red-colored light between analytic and quad, or play with the sheen slider.

And then another thing, which isn't working as expected, I'd say. The hair material. In this scene the lighting is symmetrical, still the hair is rendering more specular on the left side:
Image
If I use a standard material in comparison, the lighting is as expected:

Do I need some sort of orient attribute? Usually hair shaders work with ribbon geometry, right? But Octane only has the fur setting, which generates real tubes, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe that's the problem?

Cheers
