Hi,
I´m a long time LW11.6 + Octane2 user. (Win7 + 2xGTX780)
I just updated to a new machine (Win10 + 3xGTX1070) and to Octane3. The rendering speed increased to 3,5 times compared to my previous setup so I´m very happy about it.
But now I have stumbled to couple of slow actions.
This is a minor thing but when I do something in Modeler and turn to Layout, it takes maybe 15 seconds to let me do anything. Same thing other way also. (With my previous setup there was no pause between the two programs.)
A bigger thing is that when I render, let´s say a two hour 4K size render, it renders nicely to 99% of the final render but then it pauses for about 10 minutes and after that the render is ready and I can save it. (With my previous setup it rendered straight to 100% and I could save the render immediatly.)
Any idea of what could cause these two slow actions?
Could it be some win10 firewall stuff or something...? ( I have no other virus software than win10)
Thanks!
Slow performance?

Hi,
What version of the plugin are you using?
The first issue can be related to some of the new Octane 3 features related to updating the mesh objects when they are modified in the Modeler, like the ngons tessellation, for example. Do you have this problem even in simple scenes using simple objects? If you want to send to me a sample scene and objects, I could test it here. You could also enable the log file in the plugin render options panel and attach it here to see I can figure the delay point.
I'm not sure about your other issues. Again, if you enable the log file and attach it here, I could check it to see if can see something on them. A sample scene with this problems could also help.
Thanks,
-Juanjo

Hi,
I have version 3.05.3
I tried the Modeler/Layout sync speed with a very simple box scene and it was a lot faster, so the sync slowness is probably related to very heavy scenes. I will continue testing.
The other issue with final render forming is still bothering me. But I might have found the cause:
I´m rendering a scene with 5400 x 3500 resolution. The scene itself isn´t very heavy. It´s renders nicely and the final image forming doesn´t take very long.
But when I add a composited background image (TGA) of the same size (5400x3500), after rendering the final image forming takes forever and it seems it takes longer based of how long the rendering took. If I render 50 samples, the final image forming takes like 1 minute but if I render 5000 samples it takes 10 minutes.
Can you test this with your system and take a look if you can reproduce it?
Thanks!

After some tests, I've found that the image compositing functions in the plugin side (using the CPU) while working with high resolution images are really slow. I'm thinking about adding an option to disable the compositing functions in the preview window, adding the background only when the rendering is complete. I'll think also about how to improve the compositing performance.
Thanks,

Thanks for giving time for this.
But the weird part is that before when I used Octane 2 and had a less powerful computer, I did not have this slowness with the finalization of the rendered image. Large resolutions and composited backgrounds were no problem.

Hi,
Since updating to 3 GPUs and to Octane 3 the abort of the render takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r-. Why is it that when I have a heavy scene, I can stop IPR at no time but when I start rendering with F9 and want to abort rendering, it takes like 15 minutes to stop the render and continue working. The scene is pretty heavy and the resolution of the F9 render is about 5k, but with my previous system (2 GPUs and Octane 2) abort never took more than two minutes with similar scene.

Yes Aborting F9/F10 in 3.06.4 build sometime take ages (i often do end task
). Not sure why but i've not had that problem in 3.05.3.
