Update / Edit 2015 - 12 - 15:

Latest Release 3.0.0.6 published

- updated status information
Side Note:
With the arrival of the first OctaneRender 3 test versions the original purpose of this thread has reached its conclusion.

Thanks to all users who helped testing and reporting errors and face_off who was able solve an impressive amount of issues in a very short time frame.

Special thanks to Notiusweb who kept track and put together the list.
- - -
green = issue considered solved by face_off
orange = issue partially solved or needs to be checked with latest build
- - -
- - -

Notiusweb invested a lot of time and energy to keep track of the bug reports and feature requests.

face_off asked the OcDS plugin users to put together a prioritised list:

viewtopic.php?f=44&t=47686&start=360#p255658

This list captures only the issues that were known BEFORE face_off took over plugin development.
The idea is to provide a guide to issues reported in the old beta threads.

All NEW issues should be reported in the new beta release threads.

Show Stoppers - Highest Priority Issues preventing efficient work with OcDS

01 Unwanted UI interactions between DAZ Studio and the OctaneRender plugin

Mouse sometimes maintains priority of focus, even when it shouldn't (such as when typing information in a text field), and may lose it when it shouldn't (not actively switching to whichever section of DS is currently being moused over while not entering text). This can lead to errant interactions with both OcDS plugin and Daz UI

- - -

02 Materials Conversion - problems converting materials from Daz to OcDS (Iray materials not supported, materials not converting, mesh-plain collision causing artifacts and blotches, issues related to creation of 'Mix Material' (such as Normals Map defaulting to 2, which causes Toon textures in Daylight Environment), etc.)

03 Network rendering
- does not work if the Master node has more than one network card present and active.
- Network rendering is bugged - Not only does the slave not go to ON mode when the master has more than one Ethernet card installed, but when the nodes actually connect and start rendering the resulting render is desaturated as if the slave node was sending the result with all surfaces being flat white.

resolved in release - 2.24.2.2.

Issues with implemented features

04 Materials pane settings "Export" button exists however does not activate save file dialogue, therefore materials per-session cannot be saved. Inability to save Materials settings from OcDS (button lets you import, but not export...).

06 Instant Crash when opening OR Image Browser
If you move/delete the HDR folder you had previously selected a file from, as soon as you choose the ellipses to open the Image Browser, the application crashes. It appears to be trying to reference a folder/file that no longer exists. This may apply to the Image Browser in general - not sure.

08 Camera & Object Motion Blur
- Object Motion Blur not working
- HDR background has no camera motion blur at all
- When the camera is rotating no camera motion blur is created

09 Exporting Animated Cameras & animated Scenes to standalone

- Exporting complete scenes including animated camera with ORBX not yet working
- Exporting just an animated camera with ORBX not yet working

- Scenes exported as .ORBX do not include key frames for objects animated in the DAZ Studio time line

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=49315

Since 2.24.2.1 animated cameras can be exported as ABC.
Information about animated DAZ Studio keyframes is not exported to OR standalone.

10 Exporting Geo Grafts to standalone Export of Male Gens Hip Textures from plugin to full Octane not working.

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=47686&start=240#p242996

- Issues related to exporting Geo Grafts to OR standalone may be resolved.
- Nevertheless there could still be remaining issues when Geo Grafts are used in combination with Geometry Shells.

11 Different Names for Projection Modes in OcDS and OR standalone.

What is called Mesh UV projection in OctaneRender standalone is called UVW projection in the OcDS plugin.
What is called XYZ to UVW Projection in OctaneRender standalone is called linear projection in the OcDS plugin.

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=44053&p=239969#p239969

Fixed in the next release 3.0.0.6

- - -

12 Scene Loading OcDS Data issue - if you load a scene that had OcDS data in it while the plugin was not enabled, saved it and opened later with OcDS enabled, scene does not retain the OcDS data

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=47686&p=245929#p245929

- - -

Random bugs which are hard to reproduce

13 Plugin Stall - upon repeated selection/use of materials in OcDS, or when selecting 'Reload'>'Rebuild Scene' tab, sometimes plugin no longer functions, grayed out...cannot create 'New' scene in Daz, can only load 'Recent' or close down

compare:
please post link if you know a post where the issue is described

- - -

14 Drop-Down Defaults to 'None' - sometimes when using a node drop-down, and you select something other than 'None", it sets itself as 'None" requiring a second drop-down entry (then it works....)

compare:
please post link if you know a post where the issue is described

- - -

Feature Requests

15 A button to resize all textures in the texture tab. It would be a real time save for us who render smallish images on smaller cards, instead of having to click each individual texture. A "Default texture size" drop down in Preferences/texture settings would also work

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=47686&p=246077&#p246077

Suggested alternate workflow: enable Out-of-core textures instead.
- - -

16 Save texture size settings (i.e. 1/2,1/4 ...) with the file

- - -

17 Add Out of Core support to network render Slave nodes

This is resolved in the release 2.24.2.1 - where you manually setup the slaves.

- - -

18 Panoramic camera node should be added to the OcDS plugin

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=47686&p=245099#p245099

related request:
Option to add "Thin lens camera" to the scene that uses the same camera values as OctaneRender standalone cameras

19 Highlight empty Image Fields in bright red, as well as the materials in the Octane Material List. If something got left out or lost in a scene would make it easier to see when something is missing. (i.e. - Recent Normal Map issues, and issues like when building a character skin with different face/lip maps ,the lips will have missing Spec or even Bump maps.)

The version 1003 of the list and the poll includes only issues and requests collected by Notiusweb or already posted in an existing forum thread until 2015 11 21.
Adding new items to the poll now would reset it.

If you want to create your own updated list feel free to use the attached .pdf or .docx and update them.

Update / Edit:

Issues posted in this thread after voting started

21 high object count scenes results in massive lag in Daz when you attempt to move an object

The length of the freeze depends on the complexity of the scene, with a single figure scene, the freeze is barley noticeable. Which a complex scene, such as one with six clothed figures the freeze is a couple of seconds.
This does not start happening until the OctaneRender Viewport is opened.

compare:

viewtopic.php?f=44&t=51398#p255759

- - -

22 textures not updating correctly when rendering animation
textures in a scene are becoming corrupted for a single or consecutive frames when rendering animation.
OcDS doesn't remember when certain materials have been changed and repeatedly reloads the same wrong material
something is still wrong with the way OcDS updates textures

23 merging .duf scenes with OctaneRender materials produces very large file sizes because even deleted materials seem to be saved
There are features to actually delete all unused OR materials of a scene but using them does not seem to reduce the .duf scene file size.

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=51398&start=10#p255852

- - -

24 Environment and Render settings are included when merging .duf scenes.

There does not seem to be an option to quickly delete all the countless duplicate environment presets and render settings presets that are created when merging scenes.

- button or right click option to delete all unused render settings
- button or right click option to delete all unused environments
compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=51398&start=10#p255852

There is a workaround:
In the OcDS Preferences tab there are actually Scene Loading options
compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=51410&start=60#p256694

- - -

25 'Render Settings' export / import.
Some of the values change to default even though exported with modified values

compare:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=51398&start=20#p255886

maybe related:

images used in the RGB image slot of HDR environment presets are not saved
- when saving scenes and loading them
- when saving environments as "My presets"

My preference would be to remove all the slave rendering functions - and replace with the standard Network Render dialog from Octane Standalone that all other Octane plugins use. Users can then setup slaves manually, incl out-of-core textures. This should resolve issues 3 and 17.

Btw - Just to point out the obvious:

Feel free to edit and moderate the original post and the poll to better fit your needs.

- - -

I do not know what happens when I edit the poll or post so for now I will not anymore edit the first post in order not to mess up voting.

- - -

I did overlook a typo in the poll and the list

It is geograft and not geocraft.

It's rather easy to run into the issue. Click on any box that allows text entry, and move the mouse (without clicking) out of the window. This occurs in any element of the Daz Studio UI that one can enter text into. More often than not, it will cancel text entry. It is also supposed to focus whichever window the mouse is over while not entering text, but may or may not do so, so it's not that any steps specifically cause this behavior, it is just how the UI behaves in general, and per some discussion with t_3 about it months ago, it shouldn't. This specific behavior does not occur when running Daz Studio without OcDS, for me, and is unique to the version 2.* pre-release betas.

It is worth noting that Daz Studio occasionally has issues with "click-through." I have no idea what else to call it. I use floating panels for everything on separate monitors, and Daz Studio occasionally reads me clicking a parameter slider as clicking the viewport as though it was behind said slider (It isn't, but if you extended it, it acts as though I clicked in the non-existent extension). This behavior occurs whether using the OcDS plugin or not, but is so sporadic, I think it's just a Quicktime UI issue, and unrelated (again, I think) to the problem above.

Also: Holy responsiveness! Color me impressed and optimistic.

Hi Paul! Excited!

Can you pls provide sample scene which demonstrate the material conversion issues.

Paul
Okay, with the conversion issue, just load any G3F character (and G3F hair if you want), and attempt rendering with the default sunlight environment:
If Iray mats, you will see eye, eyelash, and hair issues.
If 3Delight mats, you will see skin issues, looking like toon textures.

Remember we can't exactly export a meaningful scene, per-say, from the plugin itself, as the materials don't export. But, to replicate with the Daz file, it's nothing special at all. Load a Genesis 3 female, export, and right away, you will see an issue in OcDS.

Can we please add the issue, reported by myself and vortex3d on multiple occasions, where high object count scenes results in massive lag in Daz when you attempt to move an object?
abayliss wrote:I'm experiencing an issue where any movement of an object or figure in Daz causes Daz to freeze for a few seconds before updating the figure position. This can make figure posing adjustments painfully slow.

I originally thought the issue happened with any figure posing adjustments as well as object movement, but this was only because the figures had objects parented to their hands. So when I adjusted the pose of the figure, it would then move the object, causing the freeze. If a limb does not have a parented object, then it can be bent and twisted without any problems.

The length of the freeze depends on the complexity of the scene, with a single figure scene, the freeze is barley noticeable. Which a complex scene, such as one with six clothed figures the freeze is a couple of seconds.

This does not start happening until I open the OctaneRender Viewport.

Pausing the render does not fix the issue.

Disabling Live Geometry Updates does not fix the issue.

Closing the OctaneRender Viewport does not fix the issue.

Clearing and re-opening the scene does fix the issue until I open the OctaneRender Viewport., at which point it happens again.

Hiding multiple figures in the scene can reduce the length of the freeze.
