Let's post our tips and tricks surfacing here. So others can learn from our use. I know there are other presets out there for Octane, not really looking for that so much...but more the learning aspect. Why or how you did something particular...so that we can all learn and continue to develop. I would suggest a node tree screen grab at minimum and possibly a finished render too.

Ok so I'll start it off. I usually use Shadermap to convert textures into the different elements of shading...spec, bump, rough etc...

But this can be done with nodes to some level. Basically you can use the colorcorrect texture node to desaturate and change brightness and contrast of a texture to form the bump and spec layers. When editing these I usually plug them directly into the diffuse channel while editing so I can see the results of my editing in black and white on the texture. Whish the node had a preview of the edit in a thumbnail or something. When I think I'm happy I plug the diffuse color texture back in and route the bump, spec and rough back into their appropriate nodes. It's a quick fix for not making the real layers inside Shadermap or other program which is probably a better result... But who knows this method might trigger something else for you in another way...

I would personally have another texture node, set to float, with a copy of the image, for the spec/roughnes/bump etc

See this is what this thread is for. I didn't think about the float texture...probably get better results, I'll give it a try...thanks!
