So I have been creating animations using 2 machines networked and things have been great.. then a project comes up where I needed to tick update materials. my scene has half a gig's worth of textures that has to be updated every frame. by the time the textures/scene finally updates the frame has already rendered so I cant take advantage of rendering with my seconds computer. Is there anyway to select specific materials to update so the entire scene doesn't have to update? or is that something you guys can add?
or anything I can do to speed up network? seems like it takes at least 2 mins for 500mb to transfer. both are windows 7 machines.
networking & selective materials update?

What kind of network do you have? ... with a conventional 1 Gb network, update 500 MB should be a matter of seconds, perhaps 10 o 15 at the most. Something is not working fine in your network from my point of view.
Are you rendering in "update" or in "full reload" mode?. In update mode only the scene changes are updated, so the network rendering should be faster.
