Hi.

I've been using octane for rhino for a while now. It is a great rendering engine, and rhino plugin is really well done and thought.
Beside of doing what it's supposed to do (and it does it very well) there are some little features here and there that make our life easier.
Couple of examples:
-Converting rhino materials to octane materials? no problem.
-Convert all rhino mats in the scene? right click and voila.
-Export whole scene to octane standalone? works flawless (i did it with 1000+ objects and 2 mil polys - not a single problem with it).
-Save materials, export and import with maps packed in them.
-There is even an option to use proxies and scatter via csv (didn't test yet).
-This is my favorite - using block in rhino drastically reduces memory usage - and when exported to standalone it uses scatter with those blocks - fantastic!
-I am currently working on my personal project - interior viz - 3mil+ polys in total, lots of meshes nad polysurfaces, and blocks, saving the scene lasts agonizing 20 seconds - and it renders fine without problems.

Simply put: great job, congratulations.

I would address some bugs/issues I found in the latest release.

1. The worst one is rhino crash or unresponsive devices when using region render and then changing the view(rotate, zoom etc). It changes in the region, but turning render region off makes rhino crash/hang and closing and opening octanerenderview throws (or some times just not and hangs only) this error:
Image
Restarting rhino is the only way to solve it.

2. This one is weird - when you copy one map from one slot - let's say diffuse - via right click and "copy", and pasting it to another slot - the icon is different (roughness), see here:Image
This icon changes to normal (white and red icon) with time - don't know how exactly.

3. When to paste map to a slot that can be empty (disconected) such as bump, and then set it to disconected - it throws error, usually twice: Image

Same situation, different error Image
After clicking ok everything works fine. Error shows every time renderviewport is opened.

4. Once I've opened my scene and this error came up: Image

When tried to save: Image
After clicking ok everything works fine.

5. Some issue - whenever I collapse my tree in octane settings tab, it gets fully uncollapsed when I move to other tab, like materials, and return to settings tab.
Though when I leave it uncollapsed, and switch tabs, it is still uncollapsed, bot it is scrolled where I left it.

6. Color picker - I mess with it really quickly and some times I am moving brightness vertical slider, but my cursor stucks on the hue wheel and instead of brightness I am changing hue and sat. And sometimes reverse situation occurs, I move quickly form brightness slider to hue wheel and still moving the brightness. It only occurs in the area of wheel near the slider. I thing it has something to do with refreshing and getting new value to the engine, since I click pretty quick, and during the render ui is slow, I probably start new clicking while old one was not fully sent yet.

Hi Mac. Thanks for the feedback.

It changes in the region, but turning render region off makes rhino crash/hang and closing and opening octanerenderview throws (or some times just not and hangs only) this error:
I could not reproduce this error. However there is a known issue which McNeel are trying to resolve related to the Material tab being docked into the Rhino UI. If you undock (drag) the Material panel does that resolve this issue?
2. This one is weird - when you copy one map from one slot - let's say diffuse - via right click and "copy", and pasting it to another slot - the icon is different (roughness), see here.
This icon changes to normal (white and red icon) with time - don't know how exactly.
Fixed in the next release.
3. When to paste map to a slot that can be empty (disconected) such as bump, and then set it to disconected - it throws error, usually twice:
Should be fixed in the next release.
4. Once I've opened my scene and this error came up:
Can you reproduce this error everytime when opening that scene? If so, pls send me the scene and I will fix the error.
5. Some issue - whenever I collapse my tree in octane settings tab, it gets fully uncollapsed when I move to other tab, like materials, and return to settings tab.
Though when I leave it uncollapsed, and switch tabs, it is still uncollapsed, bot it is scrolled where I left it.
I could not reproduce this issue.

I could not reproduce this issue. Are you using a separate graphics card as your Windows display adapter? If not, it is highly recommended, as it will speed up the UI whilst rendering.

Hi Paul

1. I'll check your solution, I'll try to find that issue and make the scene that reproduces it. Mayby it is specific only for me (or that scene) but in general when I change view when region is active rendering stops, I have to close renderview (and usually restart rhino). I'll try to catch this on video.
4. It happened only once without any particular reason.
5. It works like this - when I collapse my tree and only leave "kernel" uncollapsed and then I move to other tabs (usually materials), mess around and go back to render settings tree - the whole tree is uncollapsed - I'll record video to show this.
6. This may be due to slow ui - I use both devices to render, all the time :)

Collapsing tree - it uncollapses fully everytime the renderviewport is opened :)

You can go to the Devices tab in the plugin, and tick the Use Priority of the device that is also your Window display adapter, then set the Priority to Low (then click Apply). That will throttle back the card that is your display adapter.
Collapsing tree - it uncollapses fully everytime the renderviewport is opened
Yes - this is needed because the "Rendertarget" tree is rebuilt when the Viewport is open. This happens because the actual Octane nodes are all recreated, so the tree is rebuilt to be absolutely 100% certain it matches the scene in your graphics card.
