If i make network render using lightwave plugin(not stand alone)

Will slave computer needs each just standalone license or with lightwave license?

We need 10 render machine.

Currently if you build a render farm to use LWSN in each node you need a combo license (Standalone+Plugin) for each render node, because LWSN uses the plugin code and needs a plugin license. You can use LWSN with the same workrflow that you use to render with the LW native engine, one frame in each node, and of course there aren't a nodes or GPUs limits.

If you use the Octane native network rendering you only need a Standalone license for each render node. With this solution you use all your nodes to render the same frame (the frame that you are rendering with F9/F10 in the Layout), but there is a limit of 12 GPUs that can be used at the same time.

Have you tested this Juan? I'm more interested with frame by frame network rendering than swarm method. Can you create a video how to set this up? If you use vnc you can capture the other desktop, too, when setting up the second set of octane licenses. I've not used lwsn for network rendering and always used third party render controller which is sometimes incompatable with third party renderers like fprime, kray.

In theory rendering with Octane inside LWSN is like rendering with the native LW renderer, even using third party render controllers. The only thing that you need to configure is the Octane plugin license for each render node adding to any root folder (C:\, D:\, E:\, etc.) the file "octane_node.cfg" with the license data:

Hmm..in theory..

It would be nice if this was actually tested as working before shelling out 499euro

Doesn't the demo allow this? Can we make a special request to have a demo build that we can test this on our system.

Good question ... I think that the demo version could work as render node without problems, of course with the watermarks and the limited resolution. Probably you are going to need to create a dummy octane_node.cfg file to avoid the license error.

Anyway I am going to test it here ASAP.

Yes please test if the demo can be tested as you describe via lwsn and render frame by frame. Its ok to have a watermark as long as it works without hiccups before buying another octane lw combo. Thanks.

Yes, the demo version can be used without problems to test the LWSN rendering. You only need to create a "octane_node.cfg" file in any root directory of your render node with a dummy license data, something like:

"xxxxxx"
"yyyyy"

Please, test it and let me know if it works for you.

I tried to render via Screamernet and LWSN octane projects (server machine is the same to node machine), but I'm always recieving a message, that live license is not active:
[Octane] initializing Octane for Lightwave screamernet network rendering module
[Octane]
[Octane] Reading node configuration file C:\octane_node.cfg
[Octane] OctaneLive license info: Username 8xxxxxxx0, Password **********
[Octane] Configuration file C:\octane_node.cfg read

Information: BRIDGE msg: HDRLS status -> disabled
Information: INIT PLUGIN

and, then, when rendering have to get started:

Error: OctaneLive license is not active

What did I do wrong:
should I use a license, same like render server used?
should I use another license?
LW or stand alone?
Should a license be deactivated or active before usage?

Is Layout working in this machine with this license data? ... please, also remember that you need to add a return after the password in the octane_node.cfg file.
