hello
Slowly I am doing some tests with the materials.
Today I tried the rust but are not very happy although the two textures were not suitable
I have to find a book to learn!!!!any ideas?

render time 29min 50 sec
pathtracing-2664 steps
in PP I have removed some points on the wood.

resized from 2000 1080 to 1500 810

no filter against noise! :D

just find suitable rust image of screw from real life, take picture of top and side view...applay those as UV maps and you will have great result...
U can model it easily over image in blender
Mother nature is best teacher my friend :) so look at these screws rusted by coke :)

Keep it up and try tehnique from up and you will have great results !

Something is wrong: strange texture mapping / you forgot bump / the lighting is making everything flat...

I forgot the bump on the rust but not on the metal under the rust (maybe too light)

the light is flat because I wanted to simulate a photo taken in the studio
The first attempt gave me a slightly black background so I increased the scattered light and this has made ​​it very flat,

the two textures were;
one of a color similar to rust and the other was an old wall that I used to recreate the metal (reflective) under the rust
I did not want any reflection on the rust.

I'll try again when I find time

The first file is the same with a new two textures texture and a little more bump.
The second is new with two new textures and better lighting,, 17 minutes with direct light

workstation well past its sell-by-date, Vista 64 bit (!) with a pitiful amount of RAM, re-invigorated with a GX 590

3ds Max Design 2011 (have 2013 but can't be bothered to re-do all the UI), CS5, and that free z-brush program, whatever it's called
