Just a quick test I made.
Background is HDRI. Ground, Lion statue is mesh and textures. That's pretty much it.

wasn't my concern. mine was the smooth back edges of the bumpy stone floor. but if you show the same image to people who don't try to find some cgi indications, i bet they'd take it for a photo...Basselito wrote:I know, low res textures is one of them.
Thanks.

Here's a grab from 3dsMax:
Some info:
In one way this didn't needed to be rendered. What I'm testing here is a software called 123d Catch. What this software does is by adding a row of pictures it generates a mesh and a diffuse texture. But because the diffuse is made by stitched-together photos a lot is "pre-baked" (diffuse, light etc). I tested this mainly because it's an interesting way of getting real life props in to a games (which is what I've been working with for the last 13 years). I stumbled over this software in a tutorial where a guy starts with this app and brings the generated mesh inc. texture in to zbrush to then remesh, retopo and finally bake it into a complete game asset.
In case you're interested to play around with this software (it's a free beta), you'll find it here:
