I see oyu have Fractal Design R2 chasis.
Was thinking of getting one :)
Would you say its a quite one?
Hi there,

well its definitely quieter than my previous shitty Eurocase. I cant compare it to other similar wanna-be silent cases though, as i did not try any of them. But when the computer is idle, or youre just browsing net, its very silent, i can sleep in the same room. I have 3x Fractal 12cm Silent fans inside + 2x Noctua NF14 in there btw. When i am rendering though, with both cores on the gtx590 running at full pelt, you definitely hear the fan screaming...but its still acceptable, i can stay in the room without going mad  .

Anyway, if you plan on getting more GPUs, take a bigger case. For a few months, i had 2x gtx460 and it was useless. They needed to be close to themselves, as i was unable to use the other PCI-express slot on my mobo, cause the PSU was in the way of the GPU heatsink. This was down to not the best mobo layout as well, but if the case was slightly bigger, or mobo mounted slightly higher above the PSU, it would fit. The upper card ended up so hot, the fan needed to run at 100 percent. It was awfully loud.

Otherwise though, its a great case. I love its minimalistic design with sharp edges, for me the best looking case alongside more expenise Lian-Lis. I only regret, there was not a white version of R2 like now R3, i would definitely get that one, it looks like a fridge  I have Titanium Grey version.

Timmaigh wrote:EDIT: Almost forgot, what i wanted to write in originally... i am soo happy about Instancing and SSS being so close to be added, but can we finally have the HDR/IBL + Sun combo in the next release? I am unable to get those nice reflections in the windows, if i go with sun only, as there is obviously nothing to be reflected in them. If i go with IBL, then there are no sharp shadows... personally i would be willing to wait more for the next release, if this was included. Thanks and keep up the great work
I guess we all have our preferences, but I can always fake those reflections fast and easy in photoshop, yet instances, those I can't fake, and I'm drooling just waiting for the next build, I'm even building my next contest entry relaying completly in instances and SSS just for the heck of it, (and SSS I can fake too, althou it looks so sweet in this teaser renders arf)
Obviously, instancing is the number 1 feature for me as well, but between SSS and HDR + sun, i would say my preference is HDR + Sun.
Anyway i did not want to suggest to leave either instancing or SSS to acommodate HDR + Sun, rather to include it alongside these 2 features, even at cost, it will take longer for 2.6 version to come out.

Refractive Software:
As you finalize the Max plugin, can you please make sure that we are able to animate the translucency of objects (either animating the Visibility controller or by animating the opacity on materials)? This is an important feature for many animations.

Also, it would be great if we can import Mudbox files that have been painted using PTEX (imported using the free Mankua plugin) and be able to render them with the Octane plugin. PTEX is much easier than using UVW unwrap. I imagine that it will work and that anything that can be rendered using the scanline renderer will be renderable with Octane, including NURBS objects, but I'm just checking. . .

Thanks!

I would also like to see Ptex in Octane. :) I use Ptex in Vray atm and sick of the slow response I get with vray activeshade!
