I've noticed this also with the newer builds of the v2.xx plugin. The viewport update is slower especially when using HDR environments. This affects simple and complex scenes none of which exceed 3GB VRAM. I'm also getting problems with the OcDS panes disappearing behind DS while the plugin updates itself. This is mainly a problem while editing rather than rendering animation. I'm using 4 x NVidia 760 4GB, none of which are dedicated to graphics so OcDS uses them all, but this never caused slow down problems in the past versions of plugin. It's not as slow to update as DS IRAY but not as fast as v1 and earlier v2 plugin versions.face_off wrote:Does this happen before you open the Octane Viewport, or only after? Does it happen on simple scenes, or just complex?Entirely the GUI. Rendering is fast. Even 'selecting' an item in Daz, or moving it, or changing a parameter takes 1-5 seconds (5 to get the yellow highlight, 5 to actually select, 5 to recognize the click on a parameter, 5 more to let me edit it, 5 to accept the change, 5 to register the change, etc). Really bad. This was a significant change from 4.5 + 2.(older x) Octane. Obviously, I don't know where the real issue is and am wondering if others are noticing it too.

If you have a specific scene which is measurably slower on the current release than previous releases, pls send it to me (incl all assets) and I will take a look.I've noticed this also with the newer builds of the v2.xx plugin. I need a clear 'Yes' or 'No' to weather the dialog should be removed. The removal of unused environments and render settings is a much bigger topic, and is going to take longer for me to get to.As a reminder why that dialogue was put in place:
Especially new users often
- merged .duf files of multiple scenes together
- exported to standalone
without before cleaning up unused materials, render and environment presets.
As a consequence users started posts with random issues that happened when merging scenes or exporting.

If you can find T3's original 2.x release posts, I think he listed a few technical reasons as to why 2.x is slower at updating than 1.x was. However I remember the reasons being a side effect of new features or fixing things that didn't work, like geo-grafts. I certainly noticed a slow down, but nothing like what jimgale is saying.

If those are the reasons for doing it, they're certainly valid for users who don't know what they're doing, but as it currently is, it's horrible and doesn't do any of those things anyway, just scrap it please and maybe investigates better working solutions for these issues at a later date, not that I think it's very important, learning what you're doing and pressing some delete buttons works just as well.face_off wrote:I need a clear 'Yes' or 'No' to weather the dialog should be removed. I would prefer the plugin to automatically save unused materials as default and for us to share information about material use for new users. Maybe some kind of OcDS FAQ sticky thread that contains info about optimising materials, lighting, HDR etc. There is a lot of info on the forum but it's not very accessible and is sometimes difficult to search for.

If there are differing thoughts/opinions maybe a "suppress dialogue prompts" checkbox in preferences so that you can disable or have dialogue prompts like this? Me, I don't care that the dialogue is there.

I would rather not add another preference checkbox for this, since it is a minor issue, and the number of options in the plugin is already quite overwhelming for new users. If there are differing thoughts/opinions maybe a "suppress dialogue prompts" checkbox in preferences so that you can disable or have dialogue prompts like this? Ok, I've done a complete 180 on this issue. I was experiencing slow down because of all the unused materials in the scene. As soon as I deleted them everything speeded up dramatically. So I would like to keep the save unused materials option as default even though it's a bit inconvenient. Maybe if there was a way to switch this off for those who don't like it then that might suit everyone.face_off wrote:I would rather not add another preference checkbox for this, since it is a minor issue, and the number of options in the plugin is already quite overwhelming for new users. If there are differing thoughts/opinions maybe a "suppress dialogue prompts" checkbox in preferences so that you can disable or have dialogue prompts like this?
