I really need to repeat my previous assertion that not having features you think are important is one thing, however, not getting any response form the development team about what they think of the requested features is far worse.
Sorry, but this is not how it works. We are a handful of developers and we can either spend the whole day answering people or we spend the time doing actual work. If you post a feature request and don't get a reply, it doesn't mean we are ignoring you, but we can do only one thing at a time and we have currently a lot on our plates to ship 2.0 this month. Of course, we are adding new features all the time, but there are requests from all kinds of directions and you are not the only one. And Thomas (stratified) already replied to you in some other thread, that we will look into procedurals in the future, but for now, other work has higher priority. So please be patient.

Regarding matte: We plan to release 1.51 today, with quite a few bug fixes and which has a modified matte behaviour. It has it's advantages and its disadvantages. It's not possible to get reflections and refractions 100% right, but I will explain how it works and how to work around the issues.
