The problem is, that the planes i need to generate a smoky effect has there faces backside from the light.
To see they, i must use an emitter, but the emitter lit up the entire scene.
It would be nice, if i can render the luminous part alone and comp it later together to the final result.
Here a quick example to see what i mean...

yeap, it's a huge combined effort muhahahahah, moons everywhere, mooning all the way (hold it, that's not right for sure....)!
Now seriously, @face I did something alike in my last contest for the devil and the alien scene, what I did, as you have suggested is using a diffuse material with a texture emitter with really low power and low opacity, and it looked ok, also there were several planes. I have to say that it did nothing good for the sample rate, also you might encounter a problem with the emitters surface size. But now I think you could overcome this by using a secondary ligth emitter, hidden from view or with a low almost 0 opacity just pointing at the fog. It could do the trick too.
Also now they lit the scene 'cause there is no other emitter, once you add some "regular" ones, you can balance the fog ones to be so low that they let you do the trick yet they won't add much to the scene. Try adding just a plane emitter, and you should see what I mean.

I'm in! At least for a still, we'll see if I get enough time for an anim!
my concept is a space scene with pieces of rock and land floating with remains of civilisation still attached to some and other sinificative objects partly destroyed floating as well. The key object is a baby doll a bit wrecked stuck on the largest stone, one eye, arm and leg missing.
Not sure if we're supposed to post lots of work in progress... here are some pics.

I'm here too. I hope you like my idea.

sorry, but where we have to put own steps and finally image/animation? here in this posto or we have to open another discussion?
You have to post your final render here in this thread. It will be messy, but it worked the last time...
Don't post WIP images here. You can open a WIP thread in the WIP forums, if you want.

Does anyone know if you are allowed to post stills/animations of other subjects, not strictly focusing on the 2012 myth.
thanks.
thanks.
