The scene works fine for me, until I drop the opacity down to 0.0, then it freezes for a moment and exits with:

Code: Select all

Cuda error in file 'octane_cuda_kernel.cu' in line 403 : the launch timed out and was terminated.

I've been so busy lately catching up with all the administration due to my pneumonia (which is now %100 healed ;) ),
but are there any remaining exporter issues ?

if so, can someone of the plugin developers make a propper and well documented support post in this forum, titled '[PLUGINS] issues with current exporters/plugins with beta 2.3 v4'

Thanks a lot guys ;)

I don't know if this has been reported, but to begin with... I've tried to use Blender exporting script with the new build and everything works fine for me at least. The problem starts later, when I'm rendering a scene, after a few minutes Octane disconnects from the server and freezes... there's no way to move/pan the screen or save the image, however I can still browse the basic options like file saving etc. Weird thing is that, after closing Octane, Task Manager still shows it as a running application, ant there's no way of turning it off, except of restarting the computer.... And even then, during the restart it freezes after windows is shut down.

Has anyone encountered similar problems? I wonder if it has to do anything with my new GPU. At the moment, I run desktop on my "old" GTX 275, and have the new GTX 460 installed only for rendering purposes...

it could be the GTX460, it's not fully supported with cuda 3.0 (did'nt exist back then) and it's a new chip architecture, compute model 2.1 instead of 2.0 for GTX470/GTX480 cards.

Maybe try installing the latest drivers from the nvidia homepage ?

Also, can you reproduce it ? if you can, could you provide us with a little test scene and a procedure ?

You mean rendering the scene one more time I assume? :) Actually I have to do that because it's my graduation project. I'm doing the render now and it seems that the problem only occurs, when the Octane disconnects somehow from the server...

EDIT

I enclose the rendered image below. Rendertime on GTX460 only was 45 minutes, but the final resolution (for printing purposes) was 2 times bigger (1800 x 2700).

By the way, I was testing my GPUs on a clay scene, to compare their speed, and GTX460 is a really good piece of hardware. I enclose the render below. My "old" GTX 275 did 100 samples in 4 minutes 22 sec. GTX460 handled it within 3 minutes 50 sec, and both cards rendered 100 samples in 2 minutes 6 seconds it's a 200% speed up on both cards comparing to a single GTX 275.

thanks,

octane should be able to finish your render when you're connection is lost.
you can't make use of the livedb and the preferences panel with no connection, but editing/navigating and rendering a final, then saving the result, should not be an issue. (but you cannot load a new scene and restart a new render engine instance without a connection)

can you reproduce it exactly ?

Do any other users have the same issue ?
I think it's a stuck thread.

we'll investigate, thanks for your information so far... ;)
