I have found a bug. As you can see from the screenshots below, I have an object that looks fine with no subdivision, but as soon as I increase the subdiv number, the vertices become corrupted, and they converge at the world's origin. I've also included the file to let you debug it.

I run into this very often. It sucks big time. I also sent a bug report to Otoy a long time ago about this. The answer was that it's out of their hands as they use the Pixar Subd library to subdivide. Your mesh needs to be water tight to avoid these problems. I wrote more about it here http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 07#p232207.

Abstrax,
Is it possible to add few more Camera response curve presets with no color tinting.
For example
I love to use DSCS315_1 but that one and all other curves does have color tinting.

I would really like to have at least 4 more Camera responses without color tint or processing that they are RGB values are same.

It's a great deal of problem rendering products that needs exact color. Which becomes impossible to do match correct colors.

You might say do not use Tone mapping and use linear. But then I need to do those in post ( say photoshop) . It would really be great to see response curves without messing with colors. :)
Thanks,

Yes, we could add an option to average the channels or use only the green curve for all three channels the to disable tinting. I will put it on our to-do list.

I am aware that analogue film response and digital camera "picture profiles" may not work exactly the same.

But just to have asked:

Could real world camera producers provide Otoy with picture profiles for their latest photo or video cameras?

Example:
Blackmagic
Canon
Nikon
Sony
Red
Side Note:
"Picture Profiles" give the user the ability to make sure that all cameras used on the same set are using the same parameters.
Picture profiles are often set up so that the image can still be adjusted in post production.
The idea is not to use settings that blow out highlights or crush the blacks or add a specific tint to the image.

Footage recorded with picture profiles may look a bit desaturated and lacks contrast but exactly because of that is perfect for post production.

Compare:
http://www.xdcam-user.com/picture-profile-guide/
From my point of view the current "film response" curves may be of maximum use to only a very small fraction of users who still work on projects that use analogue film cameras.

For everyone those film response curves have some artistic use to tint renders before postproduction.

I do realize that with the linear response option I have an alternative to produce a neutral preset.

Nevertheless when matching real world live action footage and CG images sometimes it might be interesting to actually allready render with the same "picture profile" the real world camera footage is using.

I am aware that Otoy is working on many different projects.
Still I am still very gratefull for any feature addtions that may not sound that exceiting but are actually of great benefit in a production environment to save some seconds or workflow steps here and there.

Thank you for all your work.

Hi Abstrax,

why can't I assign the same (instanced) emissive materials o both slots in the mix node using the polygonside? I thought it worked.

Image one masked flame on a flat panel. At the moment I have to slight shell the surface.
