UnCommonGrafix: Thanks, I've posted it on the Lightwave Octane Materials thread
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 04#p153004
Face_off: It's just because the images aren't that great for the shader. Was just using a model I had sitting. If you were doing it right, the image wouldn't have eyebrows etc, and you'd have bothered to paint good spec and roughness images.
xxdanbrowne: Cheers, obviously all down to Tony.
UnCommonGrafx: Bottom left are various control nodes. A few are RGB, and a couple are float. For the IOR I had to use LW native nodes.

I'm glad I was able to help out the community.
I love to make it easier for others to make cool art. Can't wait to see what you all are going to do with it. I've already seen some wips from others that will be coming out soon, and I think they will impress you all.
Best

Hello Tony..
Man you are too kind really..thx soo much for helping us on this skin issue, even your brain dump..it will take a while for me to understand all of it..
Now..i need some help in understanding something, i tried your version2 of the skin shader, and right of the bat without adding any maps i get this pinky-ish color on my model (i guess this was expected) but what its bothering me is the fact that my mesh in the render is showing up faceted not smooth as in the viewport, now this is a Lowrez mesh natively no doubt..so does this mean that your shader cannot be used on lores meshes?
if i subdivide the mesh the render will show up smooth, but then it adds up to the geometry in the videocard, in some situations it would be nice to have a lores mesh when the subject is far away from the camera...
so my question is: how can i use your shader on lorez meshes, without the faceted look?
thx

The smooth normals feature is not on by default. Just enable it and you should be fine.

You don't need those maps. You just need one Color map and plug it into the Color pin. It handles all the dermis epidermis stuff for you.
If you have masks to mask out the effect of those layers, then you would plug them into the Epidermis Power and Backscatter Power pins. Those are the only controls for the mix materials

Just set the roughness to a low value. The closer to 0 the shinier and slicker it will look.
