This weekend (labor day) would have been perfect for playing with some new toys... I just finished two large gigs and waiting for answers from clients before starting next ones... oh well. Octane team is likely gone for the weekend...

Good overview - thanks.

I agree about the rounded edges thing!
And I would hope that HDRI + sun and real displacement be on the list as well before OpenCL!

But I've learned to appreciate Octane as it is since Apple, erm I mean Otoy, seems to have their own feature priority list and there seems to be little point posting feature requests. Who knows what the wizards at Apple (damn!), Otoy headquarters will impliment next (not referring to the recent leak re 1.5 features of course!)

This thread is six months old, and has had very good reception and support from the community. Between then and now -- I've left and checked back, still remaining hopeful this will show. I wouldn't say posting feature requests is entirely pointless. I am positive within six months at least one developer from Otoy has seen this thread -- I can only deduce that this particular feature seems to be very problematic to implement on the GPU, hence the silence -- if it's not working, why announce it? I respect that. Still, I remain hopeful that a group of very intelligent people will one day hammer through to the solution and bring this feature to Octane.

Is this still on the radar? Just wondering because it would make I a big difference in my workflow. I try and keep things fairly lowpoly to conserve GPU memory:) I would really like to hear any word if they are even thinking about adding it in.

Thank you!

That's because the conversion to poly is always horrible. It's a real issue that developers should fix.
The only pachage that does a quite acceptable job is MOI3d.
